I have water getting into my basement that we would like to use as a rec room and laundry room. How can we waterproof the basement and convert into a place our kids can enjoy.
Thanks
Pat

There are several questions that I would ask before any recommendations can be made. First, have you consulted a specialist in grading and drainage?

Diverting the ground and surface water from the roof and yard are usually sufficient to correct these types of problems. The ground on the exterior of your home should slope away from the foundation, all downspouts from gutters should be connected to drains which carry water away from the home and to the hard surfaces, and landscaping should be watered with drip systems (where appropriate. If these corrective actions do not fix your problem, a specialist in grading, drainage, and waterproofing should be consulted.

Good luck,

Steve

First, need to know where you live?
Next, what material is your foundation?
How old is structure?
Call a basement waterproofer in your yellow pages, may want to call two or more. Call local companies not national.
No landscaper will guarantee a dry basement after regrading, that I ever heard about.
GOOD Luck

Another question, Is the water occurring in summer or winter or both?
If it is a winter event only, then the problem is probably not exterior water, it is probably condensation.
If it is summer only then it is most likely exterior bulk water, and waterproofing and drainage are necessary.
If it is both, then a complete on site survey of the situation by an expert is necessary, and none of us know where you are from, so we do not know if we can help you or not.
One certain thing is the absolute worst thing you can do is to proceed to finish the basement without absolutely ascertaining the source of the moisture and designing a system to control it.

Hi Pat D,
I love in tennessee and the water enters my badsement year round especially when we get a hard rain. It can get any where from 1 to 2 inches deep at a time and we run a pump to get it out. Would appreciate any idea that you can give us.
Thanks
Pat
