Crack monitors?
I think you already have them.

Your eyes and a tape rule...

Just measure the changes on a daily or semi daily basis and keep a running record.

Barbara,

you said 'slab', do you mean a driveway concrete slab or basement floor? And, when was work done?

Barbara: All concrete cracks. When depends on the quality of the materials and installation.
If the contracter is reputable, they will stand behind their work. If they refuse to do so,I suggest Your local BBB or builders assoc. If that fails, call Your Attorney General.Yours Respectfully Frank O'Pinion

Concrete cracks can be controlled of proper measures are taken in its mixture and installation. A crack that grows 2 inches in 4 days is not a normal crack. In order to evaluate it, it woould have to be seen.

As L.W. has asked, is it a basement floor, a garage floor, or an outside slab? How big is the slab? Where is the crack, and how long is it? Is the slab level from side to side of the crack? Or has there been vertical movement also?
How old is the slab?

Those are the elements a professional would look for in attempting to determine a cause.

Barbara: You need a professional in foundation repair/diagnois of your problem! I would suggest a non profit organization, The NAWSRC [National Assoc.of Waterproofing and Structral Repair Contracters] You can find a qualified and certified contracter in your area on thier website.
