The person who built our house, adjoined the front and back porch to the building. The angle was off and subsequently allowed water to come in from under the doors resulting in rotten floors/water damage. How does a do it your selfer fix such a thing? We already know we have to replace the doors. The "wet" section is about 2' X 2'. We aren't sure if all of the floor joyces are effected in that specific area. Do we cut back the boards to good wood and bolt on new sections to rebuild the flooring? How far do you recommend we go back from the damaged wood?

Many Thanks,
Leigh

Leave the rotted joists in place, and install new same-size joists full length alongside the rotted ones. This might be difficult if plumbing or wiring pass through the rotted joists, but it is not possible to repair a joist by tacking on a small piece...the repair must be a full-length joist.
