We recently had our foundation repaired and now the house has about 8 cracks in the floor. The garage is developing new cracks which are pushing up and causing sharp edges which I am afraid to walk barefoot through now. One crack goes from the back of the house all the way through the garage to the front of the house is all the way through to the ground. It is about 1/8 inch thick. The engineer is telling me this is a stress crack and is normal. Is that right? We are about to put down ceremic tile and carpet and I want to get this settled before doing the next step. The contract we signed did not say anything about cracking the foundation as one of the possible problems we would have after having the house leveled.
Yes, this is normal with foundation repair, especially in situation where you have attempt a lift on a settled structure. You may continue to see some odd things because your home has to readjust to the being stretched and stressed by settlement. Your contractor should have a clause about this in their contract because these things are almost inevitable.
How much separation is there in this crack? If it is pushing up, then there may be something else going on. It would be great to know a litte more about what areas this repair was completed and what kind of piering system was installed. Thanks!

Interesting...Geek has the answer without ever asking a key question: What kind of foundation repair was done? If we know the answer to that question, we might be able to offer an opinion. Anyone who tries to answer the question before having key information well in hand shows his ignorance of the one simple basic truth of foundation issues: DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM BEFORE SELECTING THE SOLUTION!
