Need help. New construction for our cottage done on a natural solid rock. Foundation walls are poured cement lagged to the solid rock "floor" which is uneven due to natural rock nature. We're having a problem with water coming into basement via cracks in rock. We tried filling crack with hydraulic cement, but it just found another crack to start seeping in thru,,,,Additionally the basement is very humid(we're running a humidifier full time and it only gets it down to approximately 60%)..any suggestions....i.e. is there a product that will adhere to natural rock that will seal it??
Of course the basement is humid!! There is no vapor retarder!!
What kind of rock is it? How much clearance do you have between the rock and the floor joists above, at the tightest spot? How much at the highest spot?
Is it possible to jackhammer out a minimum of eight inches of rock, install a 4-inch gravel bed, a properly installed vapor retarder, and a 4-inch concrete slab?
I would also hack out a sump pit at the low point of the rock, and install a sump pump. That will control the water that runs out of the rock...it will find its way through the gravel and into the sump.
