We just completed a new home construction. For our kitchen, we requested off white (white dove) kitchen cabinets to the ceiling. Thus, the cabinets abut the crown molding. The crown molding is a white dove enamel, and the cabinets are sprayed a white dove lacquer.
We communicated to the cabinet maker that we wanted the cabinets and trim in kitchen to match. Unfortunately, the cabinet frames, the cabinet doors, and the trim are different shades of white. Regarding the different color cabinet frames and doors, we have been told that since they were painted approximately 3 mo apart, that is why the different color (we were told that aging causes yellowing). Regarding the cabinets and trim, we have been told that enamel (trim) and lacquer (cabinets) produce slightly different colors, and that it is difficult to match the two. Unfortunately, none of this was discussed with us prior to starting our build. . .we didn't realize this was going to be such a big issue.
Does this make sense? Any solutions to above problem? Specifically, we have asked the cabinet person to respray the cabinets with new lacquer to match the trim. However, he has indicated he doesn't know how exactly to match it, since he is expecting the lacquer to darken somewhat over time. Help please!
