For a home entertainment center to be painted with black laquer would MDF or solid wood, such as birch or maple, be best? Thanks

If you want quality use Solid wood. Not MDF it is only a paint grade material. also not as strong as solid wood. If your taking the time to build and do a quality finish on it. Why use lower quality materials?
