I find the video on fire sprinkler systems uninformed and poorly reported. It was decidedly on sided towards Worsbo, the manufacturer of the system shown. What was left out was the following:
1. The public water supply in the vast majority of the US has MIC in it due to the reduction of the amount of chlorine used to kill bacteria. The system does not separately create bacteria.
2. The vast majority of fire or building authorities having jurisdiction require certified and licensed contractors to install all fire sprinkler systems.
3. To my knowledge, multipurpose piping systems are not utilized due to the contractor licensing issues, installation logistics, and functionality in areas subject to freezing.
4. The fire sprinkler system is typically valved separatley from the domestic system for maintenance purposes and is usually a requirement of the AHJ.
5. Other systems are also available such as tank and pump systems that are NFPA 13D compliant as required for remote house locations and will also afford insurance reductions.
6. Copper tube fire sprinkler system are just as effective as the one shown in the video. However, Worsbo has to design each house for you and cannot be changed by anyone else. This is probably a price increase on the system.
7. Insurance companies are not quick to give insurance or incentives for systems not properly designed, installed, or inspected.
Anyone seeking further information on fire sprinklers systems can send me an e-mail.
