Best Practices VIDEOs won't play. I have read others have been having this problem, also. For many months the sponsors ads and the videos will not play. I run Windows XP Pro SP2, have DirecWay satellite connection (plenty fast on downloads, but there is a lag time for commands to come and go). I am able to watch streaming videos on other sites with no difficulty. Is there a setting in my system I can check and correct?
I have the same set-up as Patroni and apparently the same problem. I just checked my download speed and it's running at 900kbps which ought to be fast enough for this video.
Any help????
Thanks.

It is August 30, 2005, and still no resolution to this problem! You sent me some samples to try, which I did, and I sent you the results of those tests. WE REALLY DO WANT TO WATCH THESE VIDEOS. What can we try?
UPDATE: Well, at least my problem is over. I have quit DirecWay satellite and have gone to "Wireless" through a neighborhood tower. Now I can watch the Best Practices videos!

I'm sorry to hear your issue was with your ISP. However, I'm glad to hear you can now view our videos.
Well, the problem was not with the ISP. The problem is that the Flash Videos won't load/play properly with satellite users. I lost my wireless internet, because the young fella hadn't secured rights to the tower! So I went back to DirecWay, and a few days ago switched to WildBlue. I STILL CAN NOT PLAY YOUR Flash Videos. I just wrote a note to Macromedia about this problem on your site. Can you help?
Why would it be different with "Best Practices"? The value of Damian's book lies in the fact that he explains why he considers some practices "best". You may agree or not agree, but it is not presented as a fixed list never to be changed nor to be doubted.
If you find that a rule or a practice doesn't fit your style, why shouldn't you change it? But your argument to change it should be at least as good as the argument that imposes it.
For instance I'm a terrible typist (as all who read my CB-postings will readily agree), so I wouldn't think of writing even small scripts without "use strict;. On the other hand I rarely if ever "use warnings;"
