I am buying my home and occasionaly must put it up for rent for job traveling reasons. In 2004, I had to travel and put the house up for rent. It stayed empty for 1 year because of the smallness of the kitchen. I have a large back patio but was told by the engineer who designed the house, that I can only expand about 4" outward on the patio. What can I do to get my house to rent or sale?

Is there no way you can take out all or part of a wall to an adjacent room, e.g. family room?

I guess I can remove the two small walls leading into the kitchen but they are also supporting walls for the second floor. The next adjoining room is a fitted laundry room. I think my real dilemma is how to replace supporting walls leading into the laundry room once they are opened for expansion. This room is only large enough for the washer and dryer, but that will give a little larger appearance to the kitchen. I don't know. Dorothy
