I'd like to look into the idea of using a standard metal building(such as a morton building) for a home as well as a shop/gym. This seems like it could be a very cheap alternative to normal housing since you would only really have to have heating/ac in the "house" half of the building when you weren't using the shop/gym half. Since I have no experience with the financial side of this sort of project I was wondering if anyone would care to take a guess at a ballpark figure for say a 30x50 foot metal building with something like half of it closed off for a living area? I know thats vague but my plans are still pretty vague. Thanks for any help!

The metal building your thinking of must meet local and state building codes. Even though you can use it to house a office etc. There are some modifications that would be required to house people. There are however several manufactures of these buildings that have done conversions for living spaces. You will find when you end up finishing them, they are about as expensive as a stick built house.
