I am buying a home the end of this month and already have my first "renovation" planned. I'll be moving a wall that is shared between the formal dining room and master bedroom out to expand the MB. The entire house is hardwood floors, but the direction of the slats in the DR are different than the direction of the slats in the MB. Once I build the new wall and take down the old one, I know there will be a gap in the flooring there, and I'm trying to figure out what I can 'fill' it with vs redoing the floors in that room or trying to patch it with a couple strips of new flooring. So, I'm looking for suggestions or tips for what to do with this space. It'll be about 6 inches, and I was thinking about maybe some kind of tile across the space or perhaps a parquet-like product. I'm not sure what's out there though.

Any suggestions/recommendations would be most helpful! Thanks much!

How good are you with a table saw and chop saw?!

I'd suggest a 45 deg. herringbone pattern from material the same thickness (you can buy 3/4" x 2 1/4" hardwood flooring from just about any home store.) This will tie the rooms together with a nifty pattern. Maybe even rip up some flooring in the corners and door theshholds to continue the theme. Glue down you new composition and sand it flush.
most parquet products are too thin to begin with, and tile cannot beleveled to the existing surfaces.
warning though - this will take about an hour per foot using 2" strips

Good Idea, Bear Creek! And the idea of taking up the flooring in a few other places makes sense. They could give the whole thing more of a purposefull pattern.
