How can I raise a portion of a ceiling that is contructed using pre-engineered roof trusses. I would like to raise the ceiling in only my living of my 45' X 25' rancher. Or is there another option for opening up a celing that has roof trusses. Anyone ever do anything like this?
Thank you!

You cannot re-design a truss as each wood member is relying on all the others for support. While some folks have removed a cross member or two in the past without seeing any movement to install a access door to attic they were lucky that the roof did not fail. You would need to re-design the entire roof section where you want to vault the ceiling and frame it with traditional style or install a truss that is designed with a vaulted look. Either way it is a lot of work. Which translates to a lot of **$
Check with the truss manufacture if you know who designed it to see what your best option is.
