The love of my life wants to have a jacuzzi inside the house in an informal living area. Has anyone ever seen anything like this? If so, what was the layout like? Are there pictures on the net somewhere? I think it would look tacky, but I'd be more willing to accept it if I could be sure it wouldn't look off.
Phil, I assume you are speaking of a hot tub. If so, I installed one in my house eight years ago, best thing ever. When I built my house I had a carport adjecent to our master bedroom. Soon realized a carport is too small and stays full of junk. So I built a detached two car garage and workshop. Then started thinking of ideas, what to do with carport. Went to Dynasty spas and purchased their smallest hot tub. ( two seats facing each other with a reclined lounging seat beside ) 455 Gal. capacity. Put it in and enclosed the carport. We then started finishing and decorating the room. Used floating toung-lok bamboo flooring to within two feet of the tub and surrounded it with 12"X12" tiles ( Aztec pattern ) Painted the walls a light aqua blue, with baseboards and trim in a darker blue. Used color tiles from local paint store to match colors in the tub. I then built a honeycombed gondola attached to the ceiling above the tub, with mood lights in it and in the center I placed a 12" dia. shower head. The sprinkle rain type and plumbed it in following the recirc. pump. I built a partion wall across the 12' wide room behind the tub. This gave us a 12'X6' walk in closet and access area for the tubs plumbing and wiring. This is where I put a drain and hot water pipe for when the water needs changing. Also wiring for lights, hot tub and stero system with three speakers in the walls cornering the tub. I later placed a Weider system in the center of the room with workout stations all around a common weight center. Some tropical plants over by the window, and a dehumidifier in the corner hidden by two quilt racks with beach towles, and there you are. WAIT, Heres the best part. In our old closet, I insulated, dropped the ceiling, reflective foil, and covered the walls, floor and ceiling with toung and groove western cedar planks. Built upper and lower benches in two corners and put a sauna heater in the third. Rope mood lights under the benches and stero speakers in the walls. Since you have to access all this through our master bedroom. It is a private area, and My Real estate friend commented that it created an exectutive suite that added fifty thousand to the value of our home. Just something to think about, it looks great and feels great on those cold winter days when your bones ache.
Phil and Flo... this jacuzzi business is the core of our arguments .... our informal living area has a jacuzzi - 6-man capacity tub. There is a fan above it and a window beside it... even if it's cold outside, that window gets pulled open...the rest of the house members get cold, the cold air meets the hot air and it tends to 'rain' in my office at the opposite end of the house... I believe the closet door (full mirrors) have warped because of the humidity and we have replaced them a few times...
my answer - don't do it... the answer you were provided is an insulated offshoot.. not a party jacuzzi as our is, skiddr also has it for his privacy, not a party one that it becomes when installed in the corner of a living area...
leave it outside...if you value the quality of the structure of your house....and perhaps your marriage...
