I would like to build a U shaped banquette or diner booth in which the seat lifts up for storage, but still has comfortable back and seat cushions like the ones in a restaurant. Is it possible to have the best of both worlds? I appreciate your help on this subjest.

I would think that accessing storage through the top would be difficult witht he table in the way. I would recommend building a drawer into the side of the bench that faces the room. As long as you have enough space to pull the drawer all the way out, you could easily access anything you needed.

Also, when making a banquette seat, the dimensions need to be very specific for comfort purposes. The seat needs to slope back to the wall slightly as does the back. The height of the front of the seat should be 16-17" from the floor. The sitting zone clearance from the table edge to the wall should be 17.5"-20". Having said this, the best storage is a drawer, recessed underneath so the feet have room to move back slightly.

Are there any specific standards for the angle of the seat and the back?
