I have a home builtinthe late 50's. We like our neighborhood. We need to start doing some updating to ou home. We have a 17x14 ft dining room that currently has bad carpet. We have horrible vinal in the kitchen and utility room. We are propossing to paint the utility room . Lay tilein both the utilty room as well as kitchen, We are also replaceing the dirty carpet in the family room, We are planning to put laminate on that Problem we just don't know what we really need? any ideas

If the family room is closely related to the kitchen & laundry, you should us the same floor throughout. If not close, you might ought to use the same floor anyway. They're already not going to match the rest of the floors in the house, I assume. The fewer different floors, the better.
