I am getting ready to build a 3500 sq. ft. home that has a walkout basement and would work quite well for a side entry basement garage, located below the kithcen area. I would eliminate the cost of building a 36' X 26' garage, off set some by adding a second staircase down and a dumb-waiter to lift groceries, etc... from the garage space. Is this a bad idea? Is it a resale nightmare? Will I really save a lot by eliminating the garage space pf 936 sq. ft.? What other issues arise with basement garages?
