I was just wondering if we could use PVC pipe for fence posts? Metal fence posts cost ~$17 and a 4"X10' PVC pipe would be $8.50 or 3"X10'= $6.50.

There is no house on the lot behind us and across the street on the side of us is a whole open block and we get L-O-T-S of wind out here.

The current fence posts are 4x4's and because of termites, they are rotting. I'd like to sink the PVC posts 2-3 ft. in cement, then pour a "footer-like base" about 1' wide and down in the ground about 1 ' and up about 1'...don't need to worry much about cold here.

I'm sure the PVC posts will be affected by the sun but I wondered if I could paint them with Krylon paint for plastic to avoid that or certainly slow it down. For more strength, I thought of maybe pouring cement down each pole after we attach the fence.

THOUGHTS, Please
