We are going to get a 2000 square foot patio redone with paving stones. I have heard different things from different contractors about the correct way to lay them - some say with crushed concrete (RCA) and some say concrete. I am confused - can anyone help? Also will one way or the other help with preventing weeds from growing in between? Thanks -

Paving stones?? Or interlocking concrete pavers?? They are two different things, and require two different installation methods.

They are interlocking concrete pavers, and they should be set in a sand bed and only a sand bed, never concrete of any kind. A plastic film under the sand bed will inhibit the growth of weeds in the joints, but liberally puncture the film to allow drainage. I am sure the manufacturer publishes complete installation instructions, and I suggest you require your contractor to follow them in every detail.

I see the manufacturer is suggesting first a bed of quarry process gravel and then a bed of sand. That's what you should do, and don't use a contractor that insists on something different.

Complete instructions are on the manufacturer's website.
