Hello everyone! Hope someone can help me out!

I am planning to build a new retaining wall in my backyard. The old retaining wall is made of up of wood and Reinforcing rods. I have taken out all the woods but the reinforcing rods have been my problem. They are really deep into the ground and i cant seem to take it out by hand or 3lb hammer. Do any of you have suggestions or tips that could make my life a lot easier?? Thanks again

Saw them off at the lowest point and install new ones.

I agree with maintenance 6 on this. But if you want to save these steel rods you can pull them by doing the following

Take a 2x4 and drill a oblong hole into it about six inches from the end. This hole should be large enough to allow the rod to go through the hole.
Place the board over the metal rod and then get a good quality locking pliers that can be clamped onto the rod to prevent the board from slipping off. Lift the other end of the board and place a large rock or another old section of wall material under the board fairly clost to the metal rod and use it as a lever to lift the rod out. You may need to reset the locking pliers a few times as you work the rod out of the ground but it will work. The closer the balance point is to the rod the less movement you will have but the more power to lift the rod out of the ground you will get.

The relatively low cost of re-bar for pinning landscape walls doesn't justify the back breaking work to remove them, although I do like home Care's idea.
