I'm still in the planning phase of finishing my basement and am checking that what I have planned is up to code. Fire blocking now seems complicated using (what I've read to be) the recommended way to frame baement walls.
I'm planning on using 2 inch foam insulation glued to the poured concrete walls. Then leaving an inch gap (one wall will be 3 inches to keep a pipe out of sight) for air before the framing. A result of keeping objects off of the concrete/insulation is that I would create spans of more than 10 feet (an inch thick) behind the walls. How have people handled fire blocking in these cases? All I can think of is to use treated wood to span the gap between the 2x4s and the concrete/insulation at certain points to isolate sections.
It's very possible I'm overthinking this, but couldn't find any info on this scenario. I was considering a drop ceiling as well, but now think I may have a fire blocking issue there as well. The house is in central Mass and is ~20 yrs old. Happy to give any other details if it will help. thanks
Have you checked w/ your localB.I., they should be able to steer you in the right direction. It used to be you would have to putty/caulk any area going from the basement to the firstfloor. Good luck
