I'm installing a garage door opener tomorrow and would like to know what is the best way to mount the header bracket. The instructions show that you can mount it straight to a stud if it lines up with one. If it doesn't, you are supposed to add a mounting board to the wall. What I am refering to is the opener track mount that connects to the wall. Well, I guess I should get to my question. I have a concrete block home. Is it better just to mount the header bracket straight to the concrete block (using anchors), or should I mount a 2X8 piece of wood to the concrete block and mount the header bracket to that? What type of concrete anchors should I buy?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Don't think it would matter if you mount to a wood block or directly to the concrete block so long as you use through-bolts that go completely through the wall to secure either the wood to the block or the opener to the block.
