Another basement framing question. I’m building a wall that will go under some duct work. The ceiling is 9 feet and the ducting is between 8 and 9 foot. The total ducting is about 6 feet wide with about 5 inches of visible joint in the middle. So I’m thinking I need work around these ducts so that I can connect my wall to some joists off the ceiling.

I’ve seen some pictures of these where people built a ladder looking structure from the ceiling to the visible joists, and others who have built larger boxes around the duct and nailed to them. Is there a better way to make sure the wall is good and solid when finished ?

mrr how close is the duct work to the center-stick and does it hang below the center stick? you stated that you are going to install a drop ceiling. if the duct work is near the center stick why not build your wall under the center strik and place your ceiling track under the ducts. Are you going to use the ducts to supply heating and or cooling for this area?Rember one is supply and the other is return. please respond so we know your plans. there are ways to cut the ducts to supply air/heat to the area depending on what you are doing.
