I am all ready to install my LVL beam, I was told to use a beam saw to cut the existing 2"x6" ceiling joists so I can insert the LVL beam in between them, as I am replacing a smaller header/wall with one continuous LVL beam. I tried to use the 16" beam saw, but it was too long (my cieling joists are 16" centers) and besides, I was not going to have that huge blade next/above my head plus having to hold all that weight..not safe at all... I ended up cuting what I could with my 7" skill saw and was wondering what would be the best way to finish cutting the joists...is there a saw better designed for this that I don't know about? I would appreciate any help.. I have 2 material lifts rented, costing me $50 each a day, plus I wasted $80 on a saw I couldn't use (weekend rental)..
Thanks!
Rick

Rick, you should be able to just use a circular saw to cut up as far as you can. It will fit between 16"oc joist. This should leave you a couple of inches at the top of each joist to cut. Finish cutting them with a reciprocating saw. I'm sure you have taken precautions and fully support the joist on both sides of the beam you will be removing?
