Structural Insulated Panels, not only reduce the lumber needed, they also add incredible strength to the structure. The result is a home that not only reduces the amont of lumber needed by about 30%, but also increases the r-value and reduces air infiltration. The costs are considerably less than some of the alternatives, such as ICF's or closed cell spray foam. see for yourself at www.eebt.org/SIPs.html shows real pictures of sip's being assembled. the pictures tell the story about the strength of these.
