Hey did I ever run into a mess around a dormer that has been leaking for who knows how long. Before I flash around the already existing metal roof and install new siding, I have to fix a rotten top plate and a roof rafter. The top plate was a 2x4 and measure exactly that and how am I suppose to make a standard 2x4 which only measures 1 1/2 inches work? What should I do? Should I use 1/2 plywood to make up the difference?

Rip a two by six down to size and add the plywood.
