I am adding a addition to the back of my garage. This addision has a bonus room above it. The beam will be supporting both the roof system of the existing structure and the floor of the new structures bonus room. I need help sizing the beam. The specs. are as follows......
20' opening between structures
Floor 320 PLF Live 80 PLF Dead
Rood/Truss 420 PLF Live 280 PLF Dead

Can anyone help me size a steal beam????

Yes, either a competent architect or a structural engineer can help you, AFTER he or she has seen the exact conditions first-hand. I don't believe it is either ethical or proper to give such structural advice in this forum, because often the information given is incomplete or partially incorrect, and the exact configuration of the structure MUST be seen.
