Hi,

I'm doing Mahogany deck stairs with Mahogany newel posts, ballisars, and railings. The risers are painted pine. What I'm curious on is the position of the newel post either outside or inside the stringer framing and position of the newel post, either centered, close to the riser or closer to the outside tread? All the stairs I've done up to now have been painted or Pressure treated lumber so I want to do it right.

Thanks in advance

All depends on the configuration of the railing, and how it ties into the newel. That will determine the newel post location.
