I have an old farm house and one upstairs room must have been built over a porch roof and by all accounts the floor was built going with the pitch of that roof! This makes the room almost uninhabitable as anything pushed against the wall is 6" from the wall at the top and the whole room has a "funhouse" feel.It is a small room but I am not sure the quickest, most economical way to make it level and how to refloor it. Any help would be very appreciated.
Hi Terrie, Assuming there is proper structural support below this room, you could level the floor by installing what is called in construction terms "sleepers". Basically you would determine how far out of level the floor is from say, door to wall. For example; if the floor is 3 1/2 inches out of level at the wall end of the room and the distance from the doorwall to the opposing wall was 72"inches you would use a 2x4 (which actually measures 1 1/2 x 3 1/2)that is cut to 72" inches long and then cut again on the wide side of the 2x4 to taper it by chalking a line from the top corner of one end of the 2x4 to the bottom corner of the other end ( you will get two sleepers per cut). Then installing the cut 2x4's on end at 16 inch centers from one end of room to the other using construction adhesive and appropriate length deck type screws to fasten them to the existing floor. Then install a layer 3/4" tongue and groove plywood to the sleepers, again using adhesive ( this will help avoid any squeaking) and screws to fasten the plywood to your sleepers. Walla...a level floor ready for flooring! Hope I made sense!

Thank you so much and yes, you made a lot of sense. I'm going to work on it the next free weekend I have and I'll let you know my results. Thanks again!
