When I removed the grasscloth from my bathroom walls and ceiling (what were they thinking?) I found what worked best for me was to wet down the paper with hot water (wear rubber gloves) and scrape with a medium putty knife, being careful to not go through the paper on the drywall underneath. Be sure to wash all the glue off the walls (try a strong solution of **** and Span) otherwise whatever you replace the grasscloth with (paint or more wallpaper) won't stick. I had to wash the walls twice to get all the glue off.
