Hello everyone, I just joined this discussion as i am in a need of some help and advice. I just bought my first house and it is 1966 built. currently it has 8' high ceilings which i really dont like and was thinking of raising my ceiling to 10'. I wanted to know if anyone has done that and if so, can you please share your experince with me?
my house is 1600Sq ft, how much will it roughly cost to get this done?
how long does it take to do it? and any other suggestions you have for me, that will be great.

Without seeing your house and its roof, there's not much one can say, but anything you can say in words can be done...it's just a matter of dollars. Another alternative would be to use the attic space between the ceilings and the roof to create vaulted ceilings, at least in some rooms. There are structural issues to deal with, but they are relatively simple...primarily, you'd have to be sure the ratrers are properly tied to keep them from sagging and deflecting the walls outward.

Thanks Richard for the suggestion. I need to look into this and maybe show the house to a contractor. this house i bought is a fixer upper and needs a lot of work. so I am getting other renovations done as well. therefore money is my biggest concern right now as i dont have much left to spend on the renovation. I might have to put a new roof anyways as the roof currently on this house is about 12 yrs old and it looks like it needs to be changed, I have got a estimate for that already but i dont know how much will it cost to raise the ceilings. I was reading someone's comment on another forum and they were saying it will cost almost30k to 40k to raise the ceiling.

Thanks
