Thats like asking is it more feasible to buy food or grow your own. The answer - it depends on a lot of factors. If you can give more specifics then it will be easier to answer

no it is very different from your theory. I say this because purchasing a already built home can bring a mess of inhertenance months later. I've heard horror stories (things the inspector missed) for example I have a family member who had a home built in 2005 - they have have floods out of this world in the basement only and the home is spanky new so......... I have not had any and my home is 12 years old so...... Just trying to see because if it is not smart due to getting someone else's problems then I dont want that. Do you build homes??? Maybe I can get one built in Minnesota.... I've been there several times and have family there.
Sure you have more control if you build because you get to see how it is built and make sure the quality is maintained. But to play the devils advocate, many problems found down the road are not always bad construction practices. The big advantage of building is if something does go wrong down the road, you can rule out bad construction practices if you are involved in the building process.
And yes, we build homes. What part of MN is your family in?
