I live in a timberframe house that is infested with wood lice. I find them in the sinks and tub where they are obviously coming to drink but I also find them crawling about, in my bed, on my clothes...yeccchh!!! Are they a regular problem with timberframe houses and what can I do about them?? I also have aggressive starlings that have pecked throught the gable ends of the house after I rebuilt the eves they had previously destroyed. They are trying to get back into the roof for the winter. The gables are PVC and some of the holes they are pecking are bigger than a silver dollar. Any ideas about getting rid of them?

Hi there- your wood lice are following decaying wood- and somewhere in your house you have a water problem. The Starlings ( and Woodpeckers too) are looking for bugs for food- all related to moisture and decaying wood. We ahve build 450 timberframes and not had ants or woodlice- for 20 years- any form of construction can develop a moisture problem- have a good house inspector help you find your!

If the holes are that large the are most likely trying to enter to nest. I've tried many things to get rid of woodpeckers doing the same thing and the easiest solution was hang some ribbons from the eaves on the side of the house they're bothering. The ribbons will flutter in any breeze and scare the birds away without doing any harm.

Maybe you should consult an exterminator about the bugs.
