I have had these casement windows in my home since it was built 17 years ago. I few weeks ago I noticed that a drap was moving from the wind. I discovered that there was a gaping hole at the bottom of my Caradco windows that was caused by the wood rotting out. I brought a window expert over to look at it and he said that these metal over wood windows by Caradco had leaked so the wood was completely rotted away and now the entire casement window was close to falling off of the frame. The gap was so large that the wind blew right through the window into the house. I thought that when you build a home 17 years ago and spend $300,000 that at least your windows should last at least 20, maybe, if I am lucky. I understand that there maybe a lawsuit against Caradco on this. Can anyone send me any information on this lawsuit or how to file a claim. The caradco business was bought by Jeld-ven in the mid 1990's. Shouldn t they have to cover liabilities on the products that they got when they bought this business? Please help me....Window-less in Ohio..........my email is searayman7@yahoo.com

Our home was built 17 years ago by Asperline and these are the windows they installed. I now have several casement windows that I can not open or close because the crank mechanism no longer works. Also, on the bedroom windows my husband has to go outside and stand on the ladder to help close them for a tight closure. He pushes from outside and I crank from inside. I agree, we need help but I don't know about 17 years old since they are no longer in business, nor is Asperline. I spoke to a friend of ours that used to work for Asperline and thequit carrying these windows since there were so many problems.
Thanks,
lucyhockey

Just a thought... Do you have brick siding on this house?
You should be able to purchase new cranks and hardware for these windows. Pretty standard fare.

Big John: I have recently discovered this same problem. Moreover, I have found another site with dozens of the same complaints dating back 8 years. Yours is the most recent complaint I have found. I know of no lawsuit. If you keep looking, I will too, and will let you know if I find any thing.

I too have a house that is 17 yrs old and have the exact same problem as you. I'm getting estimates now to replace several of these windows as they have dry rotted away. If you do find out anything about a lawsuit, count me in. I'm still looking as well.

Thanks,

Best place to find out any info is to google these windows with lawsuits and see what comes up.
Or simply go to lawyer and let them do the work for you.
