we bought this house a few months ago. at the time , the house had 2 large brick flower beds that were attached to the front o fthe house. i have since removed them. now i have dirt stains and black mold stain on the front of the brick. i have read and also been told that i should not use a power washer due to the damage that will occur to the mortar. so i have no clue what the next step is. any ideas?? thanks bill mc

Such stuff is often cleaned with muriatic acid, which can be injurious to the user. Goggles, prtective clothing, and serious rubber gloves are called for, and the proper concentration of the acid is essential, but I don't know what it is. It is usually used with a pail and a good stiff brush, and some elbow grease. If you ask at a masonry supply place or a good old-fashioned hardware store, they may be able to advise you about the chemical, and about the protective clothing and stuff.
