I have problems on 2 different buildings here in the Northeast with fungus like growth that occurs on the shaded side of peaked roofs. The slope is at least 1 in 2, and most of the trees have been removed from the surrounding area to prevent leaves and pine needles from staying on the roofs. I am planing to re-roof the main house this year and heard of a system that incorporates a Zinc strip that is applied hortizonally acrost, the roof, approximately 1 to 2 feet below the peak, that prevents fungus growth. Does anyone have any experience with this problem and have another solution, or have any recommended sources for more information?
roy barn, you probably have lichen or moss on your roof( you may have seen this stuff growing on rocks). if you go to this old house website and search for " lichen on roof" it should be titled "Ask this old House episode # 407". Hope this is what you need. good luck...........
