hi,
I live in an 1963 house and there are lots of Carpenter Ants on the outside of an addition which I believe is wood. What can I do about them and what type of damage can they create to the structure of the remainding home which is most CBS? thank you!

I had carpenter ants too. First you have to find the source of their entering the structure.
In my case, a tree close to the house was the source. They'd fall onto the roof and then make their way inside. We first noticed them when sawdust started falling from the ceiling in a bay window. We called Orkin. They found the source and then proceeded to drill holes in the walls every so many feet and inject a poisonous solution. It worked. We used Orkin for 2 years and then discontinued. Never had a carpenter ant return.

Anton,
What are the damages these ants can cause to the structure of the house, for we see them on and off and kind of forget about it when they are not around? live2bfree68@yahoo.com Thanks!

If you have carpenter ants in your house you have a moisture problem somewhere, they need moisture to live.Just spraying is not the solution. This will not take of the source of the problem. You need to find what is moist and why.

To answer your question about what kind of damage can carpenter ants do to a home, plenty, if left unchecked. Once they establish themselves, they will excavate wood structural members to the point of failure. They do not eat wood for food. They simply tunnel through it and create nests. Not a good idea to only think about them when you see them. See your friendly neighborhood licensed pest control operator for proper treatment, and do it soon.
