I have a 60 yr old home that has an area where the stucco is a bit worn off from an air conditioner that was once there. How do I re-stucco? What exactly is stucco?

Stucco is a portland cement plaster coating. Its ingredients are portland cement, sand and lime, and occasionally a pigment.

It can easily be patched, but not so easily matched. To match precisely would require eexactly the same cement, exactly the same sand, and exactly the same pigment as the original, and then you have to deal with the effect of fading of the original stucco over time. However, a good mason with some stucco experience should be able to match closely enough.

Thank you,
I always wondered what it was. I am going to re-paint it and it is on the backside of the home so exact match is not as important. The old paint has cracks. I understand that there is an outdoor paint that will fill in the cracks?
Again thanks, Valerie
