I'm in the midst of gutting the breezeway that attaches my garage to my house. We're enclosing it and right now all the framing is done. The rest of the house has the old asbestos shingle siding. The contractor I hired wants to install vinyl siding on the breezeway but I'm afraid it won't match and it will look funny. I've seen Fiber Cement siding at Home Depot that might be a good alternative. Is it more diffucult to install? More expensive? The contractor is a nice guy but he seems to be pushing me more towards the Vinyl(I am on a strict budget). Is that the best idea? I don't want to regret the choice later.

I suppose it depends on how long you expect to keep the asbestos siding on the house. If you plan to replace it fairly soon, you might want to put vinyl or whatever you plan to use on the breezeway now. If the asbestos is gonna be around for a while, you can buy fiber-cement siding that pretty much matches the pattern of your house siding, so I'd use that. It isn't any easier or harder to install than asbestos.
