Check with Lowes. They have a shingle that is similar to the asbestos ones. concrete or something.
Asbestos is highly dangerous to your health.and I would use caution in removing it from the home.I think I would get a pro and remove it ASAP. Perhaps your local health department can tell you how to dispose od it since some facilities will not accept it.

This may have changed, but inNew York, the policy was that a homeowner could remove asbestos himself, but if he paid someone to do it, it had to be a certified asbestos removal company. If he removed it himself, he could stack it in boxes at the curb and his town had to pick it up. The result was that normal everyday contractors removed it, but did it on a weekend, when no one would be looking, and left it in boxes at the curb. Go figure.

Oh, and by the way, not all asbestos is dangerous. One must prevent fibers of it from getting into the air. And removal of asbestos is not always the wisest course of action; sometimes it is better to encapsulate it in place.

I have repaired homes with this problem. Usually I can find a short wall, or someother way to salvage some off the existing house. Add a window or door and you will have some salvage material. Put a band at the top or bottom of the wall and salvage material under it. Cover a short wall with another type of siding and get salvage material.

Its nice to see that people are willing to supply folks with their old hard to find materials. But with the Asbestos siding you cannot do this. its against the law to tranfer your siding out of the community in which its in without a hazard waste permit. Also replacement of this product is easy as most home centers sell a cement product that looks the same as what your removing.

Be sure to check that your contractor that is removing this product is licenced to do so. Many towns require this because of the type of product it is.
