I installed a retractable screen door that doesn't retract all the way. It starts then about 6 - 9 inches in it just stops I tried tightening the tension on the spring but nothing seems to work. It does however work great when it is assembled and layed on the floor??? But not when it is installed on the door frame?

Could a mis-aligned opening be causing binding when you install the otherwise-operable screen door into the opening?

Use a reliable straight-edge such as a long mason's level. Lay it against the surface, either head or jambs, and see if there are low spots, or more troublesome, high spots or bumps. While it's laying against the surface, check the bubbles, one for a level horizontal surface (the head) and the other for plumb vertical surfaces (the jambs) They won't be perfect, but you're looking for a radical misalignment somewhere. If you find it, you know thw cause of your problem, and we can discuss fixes later..they are really beyond my area of so-called expertise, so maybe one of the hands-on builders will chip in with a cure. But first things first..find the cause of the problem.
