We have a two year old house. Unfortunately, the house was bricked (concrete brick) in Dec. while it snowed but no tarps were used. While bricking the house, the mortar would continue to squish out from between the bricks and the brick layers would smear it with a brush to "clean" it off. There was so much mortar on the face of the brick, that our house looked grey (and the bricks are brown). The builder had the house power-washed 4 times. They removed a majority of the mortar off the face of the brick, but there are still a lot that have excess mortar on the outer edge of the face of the brick. During the power-washing, the mortar between the bricks were damaged. The builder has had those areas repointed. Now, I am dealing with the warranty company. They agree that the bricks still need to be cleaned. But, they want it to be power-washed again. I have been told that it should have never been power-washed in the first place, but I don't know.
Anyway, I now have to find an "expert" or someone with authority within the field to argue with the warranty company as to the proper way the bricks should be cleaned.
I have issues with our framing and have found an engineer to state the proper steps to repair the framing.
Who do I need to contact to do the same for the brick?
The way I was taught was to mix sureclean 1 to 3 in a buckett of water.Use a water hose to wet the brick.Use a deck brush to brush the sure clean on the brick. The mortar should start bubbling.Take a broke piece of brick and start rubbing the mortar,it should come right off.you should never pressure wash.that blows the mortar joints out.it should not matter what month of the year those were not bricklayers if they put mortar all over the wall.
