I am trying to determine the cost implications of fastening a large deck (near the coast)with screws (not plugged) vs. with a hidden clip system.

All in all the decking, screws, and hidden clips cost approximately the same. My real question is with regards to labor. Is there a significant difference in time it would take a contractor to install an ipe deck with screws vs installing it with hidden clips? (perhaps predrilling the ipe too time consuming) What about long term maintenance cost? Seems like the hidden fasteners would be a ***** for replacing a board in the center?

It doesn't matter if the screws are visible, the main reason of using the clips would be for additional stability against warping.

I know it's a long shot, but wondering if anyone can help with the last piece to my cost calculations.

As far as I know, Ipe must be drilled for screws. If you're going to the trouble of installing Ipe on your deck, are you sure you want screws showing? I would use the clips and fasten it from below.

Ipe is just a little short of iron in hardness and durability, so I would not worry about having to replace a board. Even so, if it is clipped from below, removing aboard should be quite simple.
