HELP! The squirrels are eating my Aunt's house....We attached screening to 4x4 ceiling to floor beams, then added lattice strips to cover the staples. I can hear the squirrels chewing the wood and I don't know how to stop it. The extension service said you can't poison them and you can't trap them to move to another location. You can shoot them, but since I live in a residential area that's not an option. Home Depot said they don't know what to do, but try painting the wood with bleach to deter them. I have to replace the wood, it's a mess, but don't want to replace it just to have them chew it up again. I hope someone can help me, they're driving me NUTS!!!!

Who said you cannot trap them and relocate? They allow shooting but not trapping? Sounds like you misunderstood them.
Get an exterminator. Once these flying rats have established a nesting area, they will doe what ever it takes for them to get back in.
Be sure that the local enviroment is not good for them as well. Cut branches back from the house at least several feet. Remove any nesting material that they put into the home as well. Be sure to wear a mask and heavy gloves when doing this as their droppings can contain microbes that can get you sick. Hardware cloth not screen must be placed over the opening on the outside of the house. Wood or plastic lattice will only be chewed through.
Very often during the fall months this becomes an issue for many folks. Your not alone.

In regards to squirrels. Have you tried hanging bags of red pepper up where they are going in? When a squirrel smells pepper they normally move on to other places. Also one client of ours put a toy rubber snake on his roof where they went in. Viola! Squirrels left and stayed gone!
