We are builing a new home and the builder doesn't include gutters (he says we don't need them). The do grade the foundation to run the water away from the home.

I know why we normally would want gutters on our home. Is there a new reason why gutters are not included on new homes (other than cost)?

Gutters have lots of advantages and few disadvantages. Just make sure they are put on correctly, with the top outer lip located below the slope of the roof at least an inch on low slope roofs, and a quarter inch on high-slope (12 on 12) roofs.

Gutters effectively control roof water, which left uncontrolled will drip over doorways, deposit ice on steps and platforms, erode the ground adjacent to the house, splash mud on the house, etc etc, etc,

I know all the reasons to have them, so why are new builders not putting them on the new homes?

You'll have to ask the builders, but don't expect straight answers...

[My question is, does anyone know of a gutter system that is attached to the headers under a sun porch to drain the water down to a funnel like object that goes into a down spout so that the area under the deck keeps dry. I saw it today 2/11/06 on the HGTV show, "Ground Breakers"? I would really appreciate any help. I live in Delaware. Thank you, Murf

Headers?? Under a sun porch?? Deck??

Is it a sun porch (roofed) or an open deck? Is the floor open like a deck floor? Or solid like a porch floor? What is meant by "headers"?

I don't quite understand the problem here...

Lowes or Homedepot sell a system that catches the water from the floor of a deck to keept the area beneath the deck dry.
