Hello and thank you in advance. I am working on a 1950 house in Southeast New Mexico build with low pitch roof (tar and white rock) with extended soffits and 2x10 rough redwood fascia all the way around courtyard and exterior of house. The entire exterior of the house is redwood and flat stone (Frank Lloyd Wright design I think). The fascia has dry rot in all the inside corners where water overflowed the gutters/trough for years (I guess). Most of the fascia is in decent shape. The owner asked me if it would be reasonable to replace the fascia with treated lumber because of the cost to replace the rough redwood. If we do replace with treated, will we be able to stain it to look like aged redwood. My recommendation was to cut out the dry rot and replace with new rough redwood or remove the arbor and use the old redwood from it to repair corners. Then build a new arbor. I have not done this type of work before but it just made more sense to me then to replace everything. Any recommendations or cautions would be appreciated.
