My current WH is showing signs of leakage. Going to order a new one this week. Does anyone have input on which brands are well-regarded in terms of reliability and efficiency? FWIW it's a 40 gal. natural gas unit.
Also, is it true that no tank-style gas heaters currently qualify for the Energy Star tax deduction?

The first gas water heater in our house was an A.O. Smith; lasted from 1961 to 1993.
The second one is a U.S. Water Heater still working OK.
Neither has made problems except the first one decided to leak after 32 years.
Water heaters are a commodity product; just go buy one for the lowest price that you can find but read the energy label.
I don't know anything about the tax deduction.
