I am building a home and wanted to use a wood burning fireplace insert. What are the required insulation procedures for venting the fire place? Do I have to build a full chimney or can the insulated pipe be run inside the interior wall structure without a lot of drastic changes to the prints which call for a ventless gas insert.

The building code eseentially says to install the insert in accordance with the manufacturer's printed instructions. If you've picked out an insert, you can probably find the manufacturer's printed instructions on their web site...usually they provide their full installation guide book. If you haven't picked out an insert, then look for one which permits sidewall venting.

Also pay attention to the required clearances from the vent to any roof overhangs above, or to the side. Again, the manufacturer will spell this all out in their instructions.
