That's the title of a super article in the Dec/Jan 2005 issue of Mother Earth News. It is worth looking up. It gives many references to read about or contact. These ideas can be incorporated into any house design. Probably lots of the ideas can be put into existing homes. The first building partner it names is ORNL Building Technology Center, also
http://www.building america.gov. You might as well not pay horrible utility bills forever.
There is also an out-of-print book you can get at your local library or get through the inter-library loan program - free- called The Little House by Leslie Armstrong. I have been bugging the publisher to re-print it. ( MacMillan) This book gives you step by step instructions on how to build a small efficient house, down to the last nail. These are not grand houses, but you can build one or build another to add onto it, or build a whole block full!
Not everybody wants one of these monstrous, Hummer houses, as I call them. I would not want to clean one either. The only thing good about a monster house is that if you hire a person to clean your house, if you cannot do it yourself, or are just spoiled or lazy, you are giving him or her work, and that's good.
As I am now past buying a home, I am writing this for anyone younger and with more money to get with the times, have a truly wonderful GREEN HOUSE! And plant a rambling rose for me. And have a good porch. Where are all the porches when we need them most. Cheers from Catwink!
