How do you estamate Painting?, if its by the square footage, what is the average labor cost?

To estimate the amount of paint needed, let's say that you have a 10 x 12 room. Add up all the walls--10+10+12+12. After you do that, multiply your total by the height of your room. This will give you the square footage you will be covering. Don't bother to deduct for windows or doors (I consider that as my waste factor). If your walls are new drywall, you will have to seal them first. Depending upon what type of paint and color you select will determine if you need 1 or 2 coats. On every can of paint, it will say on the back how much area the can should cover. It is an average so if in doubt, buy more. There is no average cost concerning labor since it varies greatly depending on the finish, type of paint, taping, patching, cutting in, rolling, spray or brush, texture, etc. Alos, different parts of the country vary.
